DR. THOMAS SCHMUTZ

Thomas Schmutz is an art historian and curator. He wrote his PhD thesis on the mutual relations between art, art history, and the materiality of fine arts. 

He has extensive experience in curating museal collections. As deputy director and head of collections at the Aargauer Kunsthaus he was responsible for all matters related to provenance research. He is a lecturer in Museum Studies at the University of Neuchâtel.

As managing director of Lange & Schmutz, he focuses on project administration and on helping our clients find the best solutions.

Thomas Schmutz enjoys the communicative part of provenance research – be it by discussing questions and possible approaches with our clients or by presenting research results to the public.
